Yukionna is a Japanese goddess of the winter storm. She is said to seduce men with her beauty during a snow storm and kill them once seduced. When a Japanese man was found frozen to death, it was said that Yukionna had seduced him to death. In the painting Yukionna is shown as a beautiful woman, maybe seducing a man at this very moment. The winter doves that are flying to her are a subtle reveal of her hidden deadly attributes-the final dove she holds has an evil bright red eye- Glaring right back at us.
